Warren Fraser - First Bahamian in action, Day 1

Clayton Clarke for Bahamas Athletics.

LONDON, England: (Fri, Aug, 4) Warren Fraser will be the first Bahamian athlete in action in London later today. He will run in the men's 100m preliminary round (7pm-London/2pm-Bahamas) as he is one of the athletes selected by the IAAF to compete but who did not meet the automatic qualifying standard of 10.12.

The Nassau native will run in lane six of heat four and will be looking to finish in the first three to automatic advance to the heats also set for later today (8:20pm/3:20pm). The 26 year old will be competing in his third World Outdoor Championships. However, he will be contesting the individual 100m for the first time. He ran with the national 4x100m team at the 2013 and 2015 editions. On both occasions, the Bahamian quartets bowed out in the semi-finals. Later in the meet he is expected to be part of the 4x100m team.

Fraser will be seeking to become the first local to reach the semifinals since Derrick Atkins in 2007. Atkins is the lone Bahamian finalist and medalist in the event when he won silver in 2007 in national record time of 9.91 seconds.
