|WOULD PRESENT TURMOIL WITHIN THE BAAA’S NEGATIVELY AFFECT OR CAUSE CANCELLATION OF THE INAUGURAL IAAF WORLD RELAYS?|
As we are all aware, The Bahamas was selected to host the 2014 Inaugural World Relays scheduled for May 2014.
This selection is indeed a privilege for the Bahamas as we are the first Country selected to host the relays outside of Europe. We are also the first Country selected to host the relays for two consecutive years (2014 and 2015), what an accomplishment and vote of confidence by such a prestigious body!
However; with the present turmoil in the Bahamas Association of Athletics Associations (BAAA), we also face another first being - the first Caribbean Country selected to have the hosting privilege revoked! This would be a total embarrassment to the Country, the Bahamian Citizens, the IAAF and the Athletes.
Bahamas Athletics agrees that elections are really needed and if elections are granted, we urge those prospective candidates to only come forward if you have a love for this beautiful Country, love for the Federation, Athletics and the Athletes. We appeal to you, if have a personal/hidden agenda, do us all a favor and do not offer yourself for candidacy - Please!
With that said and because there is so much at stake not only for the Federation but for the Country, we want to make a passionate plea for the intervention of The Right Honourable Prime Minister – Mr. Perry Gladstone Christie, Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Phillip Davis, Minister of Tourism – Mr. Obediah Wilchcombe (whose Ministry has the responsibility for Sports Tourism) and Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture.
In the best interest of The Bahamas and the sport of Athletics, please Sirs, meet with the Executives of the BAAA’s and see how best this matter can be resolved. This matter is going to get worse and we simply cannot successfully host these events with such a divided front.
I want to remind you that The World is watching us; our every move is on the World Stage.
Please Sirs, intervene!
