Bahamians on Olympic Stats Table.

By Clayton Clarke

At the completion of the Rio Olympics, several Bahamians are featured on the Olympics statistics tables. The women’s 4x400m (Lanece Clarke, Anthonique Strachan, Carmeisha Cox and Christine Amertil) may have chosen to make their Olympic debut at the wrong time. The quartet clocked a national record of 3:26.36 in the heats but did not qualify in the finals. However, at all previous Olympics since the event was contested, the time would have been quick enough to advance to the medal round. Germany (3:26.02) and France (3:26.18) also join The Bahamas with the fastest ever non-qualifying times.

Chris Brown became the top medallist in the men’s 4x400m when he captured his fourth medal in anchoring The Bahamas to bronze. He also extended the record as the oldest medallist to 37 years 10 months, adding four years to the previous standard he set in London when he led the team to gold. He remains the oldest champion in the event and is now the oldest competitor. Brown also has competed in the 400m for a record fifth time.
Pauline Davis-Thompson still holds the honour as the oldest champion in the women’s 200m (34 years 81 days) in 2000. Lavern Eve is the oldest participant in the women’s javelin (43 years 64 days) and Chandra Sturrup is the oldest competitor in the women’s 4x100m (40 years 332 days). Eve is second on the list of most participation in the women’s javelin with five. Jackie Edwards is among three who have competed in five long jump editions.

Davis-Thompson and Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie both trail Merlene Ottey for the record of the most rounds run (53 to 33).
