BYDGOSZCZ, Poland:(Saturday, July, 23): Jenae Ambrose did not win medal in the women’s 200m finals as hoped on the fifth day of the 16th IAAF World Under 20 Track and Field Championships at the Zawisza Stadium on Saturday. She was the last athlete in action to put Team Bahamas on the medal table but she came up short clocking 23.53 and missed out on winning bronze by  0.05 seconds. However, she still had the support of her twelve other team-mates who all gathered at the finish to embrace her after the race.

Ambrose said the support was important to her. “It meant a lot. My team-mates supported me and I was able to make them proud even though I didn’t medal.” The camradery has been strong among the athletes as they battled with injuries and disappointment in Poland. The 18 year old said she did not let the fact that she was going for the team’s first medal daunt her. “No pressure at all. I was trying to stay focus on myself and try to run the perfect race.” However, she added that a better start would have given her a better chance to win a medal. “ I don’t think my start was as fast in order for me to get a medal.”

Reflecting on the World U20 championships campaign, the University of Auburn student said she learnt to stay focus and she is aware of the areas she has to improve on in order to do better in the future.
